Physiological Hydration & Electrolyte Balance
Proper hydration depends not only on water intake, but also on maintaining adequate electrolyte balance, especially sodium. Drinking excessive plain water without sufficient electrolytes may contribute to poor hydration in some individuals, particularly during heavy sweating, illness, fasting, intense exercise, or certain detoxification protocols.
A physiological reference point often used in medicine is isotonic saline:
0.9% saline = 9 g NaCl per liter, or 0.9% saline = 9 g NaCl per liter
This concentration is approximately isotonic with blood plasma. However, individuals may respond differently to electrolyte intake, and adaptation should always be gradual.

0.45% = 4.5 g/L, or 0.45% = 4.5 g/L -
Half of that again corresponds to:
0.225% = 2.25 g/L, or 0.225% = 2.25 g/L
For some individuals, beginning around 2–2.5 g of salt per liter of water may provide a gentler starting point for improving electrolyte intake.
From there, concentration can be adjusted gradually according to:

Increasing sodium concentration too quickly may trigger excessive thirst, fluid retention, digestive discomfort, or other signs that the concentration is too high for the body’s current adaptation level.
The goal is not to force a fixed concentration, but to find the most suitable electrolyte balance for the individual while maintaining regular hydration.
Some people may tolerate or prefer concentrations approaching isotonic saline levels (around 9 g/L), especially during heavy sweating or prolonged exertion. Others may function better at lower concentrations. Certain individuals may also experiment with higher concentrations under specific circumstances, but this should be approached cautiously and according to personal response.
